Helmet Intercom Ecosystem

A family of adapter mounts that let riders fit their chosen intercom to their helmet.

Role

Process
3D scanning, CAD, 3D printing
Outcome
A small brand selling mounts to riders worldwide

Challenge

Motorcyclists often can't fit their chosen intercom to their helmet. Intercom mounts are made for specific systems, and many helmets have their own built-in intercom recesses, so riders end up stuck with combinations that don't work together.

What I did

As the sole designer, I used 3D scans of the native intercom areas on a range of helmets, and of the native mounts of popular intercom systems.

From those scans I designed a family of adapter mounts, each fitting a specific intercom to a specific helmet brand, and engineered them for 3D printing.

Outcome

The range became a successful small brand selling 3D-printed mounts to motorcyclists worldwide, solving a common pain point for riders.
